Alexey Akhunov, a core developer focusing on the scalability of Ethereum 1.x, published a new research direction on the combination of Turbo-Geth and Silkworm on github. He believes Ethereum can expand its performance at least 10 times before implementing sharding. Turbo-Geth is a client that forks the Ethereum client Geth and its core is focused on performance improvement. Silkworm is a research direction of Ethereum 1.0, in order to further improve the data synchronization of the Ethereum network. Akhunov stated there are still challenges, such as increasing the block gas limit will lead to DOS attacks and transmission and storage problems.
